YAGA is the fastest growing buy & sell app for preloved fashion in South Africa and Estonia. Yaga launched a pilot in Tallinn, Estonia and expanded to South Africa early 2020 where Yaga shortly became the number one choice for South Africans for selling their preloved fashion items online.

With over 5 million monthly visits, close to 100k monthly transactions and more than 1.5 million items on sale, we have been growing more than 2.4x from the beginning of 2022 only and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Early 2022 we expanded to India and Kenya to gather early learnings from these emerging markets with vast potential for growth.

Our mission is to make fashion industry more sustainable by providing a scam-free and convenient online platform for selling and buying preloved fashion. Our focus is on emerging markets as we believe fashion consumption has to become sustainable in the every corner of the world.

We have recently closed an investment round of €2.3m to scale up South Africa, continue on our growth trajectory and expand the team from 14 to 30.

Position offered

We are looking for an experienced Vice President (VP) of Marketing who will take the ownership of Yaga’s go-to-market strategy and execution and is responsible for delivering on the growth plan. With your experience and passion for re-commerce and sustainability, you will drive Yaga to become number one choice when buying and selling secondhand fashion on emerging markets like South Africa, India and Kenya.

You will be the key person responsible for online and offline strategies across geographies that align with our business goals. You understand the role marketing plays in the overall growth of the company. You will speed up the network effect and constantly look for growth opportunities with your team. You will be scaling current channels and generating new opportunities to grow Yaga in South Africa and other target markets. You have the ability to measure and adjust activities to create the biggest growth impact.

Our ideal candidate has a solid Marketing background, ideally from a consumer marketplace, and work experience managing a variety of marketing campaigns. You will play a significant role shaping the company’s strategic goals and ensure that the Marketing team’s activities contribute to our company’s long-term success.

You will be reporting directly to the CEO, manage a direct team of two and indirect team of three plus external media agencies with the ambition to increase the team further as we grow.

Responsibilities

  • Selecting and executing of the go-to-market and growth strategy

  • Full ownership and responsibility for delivering on the growth plan

  • Finding organic growth opportunities and boosting network effect

  • Planning and executing marketing campaigns across online and offline channels & designing and implementing metrics to measure campaign effectiveness

  • Manage and optimize marketing budget, prioritize marketing projects and allocate resources accordingly

  • Maintain brand standards and ensure compliance across all marketing and communications channels

  • Building a high-performing marketing team and ensuring effective coordination with other teams

Requirements

  • Proven work experience as a VP of Marketing, Marketing Director or other senior role, previous experience might be also from growth marketing, sales & business development

  • Outstanding leadership, communication, analytical and presentation skills

  • Entrepreneurial, can do / will do attitude, thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • Strategic mindset, with ability to make difficult decisions

  • Demonstrable experience with successful marketing campaigns on different social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter plus influencer marketing and partnerships

  • Solid knowledge of SEO, web analytics and Google Adwords

  • Experience with CRM software and digital marketing tools and techniques

  • Experience in start-ups / scale-ups consumer-facing companies, marketplace experience is a strong plus

  • Passion for community, content, fashion and re-commerce

  • You are comfortable working hands-on on day-to-day tasks as well as leading strategic projects
